Hidden effect of NREGP

NREGP: National Rural Employment Programme is an excellent scheme which gurantees a minimum of 100 days work for the rural people of our country. NREGP is one of reasons for the success of UPA in the 15th general elections. It has got great response from all across the country. The beneficiares of the this scheme are 90 % of the rural labor. In India , 70% of the people depend on agriculture. NREG programme assures an minimum amount of 100 per day to a maximum amount of 300 .As the programme got huge response , government is implementing the scheme throught out the year.

The farmers are worst effected because there is no labor to work in the fields. All the labourers of a particular village are willing to work in NREGP projects. The cost of labor is also dramastically increased due to the scheme. It has increased burden on the farmer , who is already uncertain of rains and market situation. The above consequences in some villages made the farmer and his/her families to work in NREGP projects to feed themselves. If the same situation continues ,then there would be shortage of food production required for the country. The Government has to think about this and make sure that scheme should not be continued in monsoon.
